National Partners

  • Americans for Non-Smokers’ Rights is dedicated to reducing exposure to secondhand smoke. Their site feathers regularly updated maps of smoke-free communities and a great deal of information on secondhand smoke.
  • The Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids is a major advocacy organization aimed at reducing tobacco use among kids and adults. The site has statistics, reports and news on tobacco control issues.
  • The CDC's Office on Smoking and Health offers statistics, a link to the Surgeon Generals’ Reports on smoking issues, and information on quitting and making your place of business smoke-free.
  • FDA Center for Tobacco Products (CPT)

  • The Tobacco Control Network: The TCN is dedicated to preventing and reducing harms related to tobacco use through idea sharing across U.S. state and territorial health agencies. The organization hosts meetings and webinars, along with “As Your Peer,” which allows tobacco control programs to gather ideas from across the U.S. and its territories.
  • Tobacco Education Clearinghouse of California: A non-profit organization, with a mandate from the State of California to make tobacco education materials available at very low cost or, sometimes,  free, to other agencies throughout the United States. The information presented in their material is developed by public health and education professionals.
  • The Truth Initiative is dedicated to building a tobacco-free generation. Funded by Tobacco Master Settlement Agreement Funds they sponsor the truth campaign and other tobacco prevention and cessation programs and campaigns.

QuitlineNC – QuitlineNC is North Carolina’s evidence-based telephone and online cessation service for those who want to quit tobacco. The website allows you to register for QuitlineNC services online and has many tips and downloadable documents to support you while you are trying to quit tobacco. The Health Professionals section contains many resources to help health care providers assist their patients quit, including 5As Training, Office Resources, QuitlineNC FAX Referral information, and many other downloadable tools. The Employers Section has great information on offering cessation services insurance coverage and steps for taking any worksite smoke-free.

Secondhand Smoke Sites

SmokeFree NC – This site has detailed information, including evaluation reports, on N.C.’s smoke-free law. You can report a suspected violation of the law here, and review reports on past violations. There are links to N.C. sites on smoke-free housing and tobacco-free schools and colleges.

Smokefree Housing N.C. – This site is aimed at multi-unit housing owners, managers and residents with ideas on how to take apartment and condominium buildings smoke-free. Success stories and tips from N.C. property owners are presented throughout the site.

Tobacco Free Colleges N.C. – This site shares information on how N.C. colleges, universities and community colleges can go tobacco-free. There are links to a detailed how-to guide developed by Wake Forest University. Find out the tobacco policy of your local N.C. college, university or community college.

Tobacco Free Schools N.C. – This site documents N.C.’s experience developing 100% tobacco-free schools policies, starting at the local level and moving to the state-level. The site is helpful to other communities, states and nations working on this issue.
